Hi guys, my name is Daulton and I'm 19 years old and I am about to
purchase my third second-gen aRX-7 and I plan to go solo with it. It's just a base model S5 GTU but anyone who knows RX-7's knows they're all fun to drive! I'll be competeing in the ES class and it will be a year of learning for me. Basically I'm just looking for any tips people may have for someone like me, and anyone who has done solo in their FC to say hi! Just a little background on me: I'm a senior in highschool pursuing a career in the automotive field. I'm a third year two-hour auto student (one year in the one hour and two years in two-hour) being taught by a Master tech and ex-CRX Solo driver. I currently have four NATEF certifications with another two on the way after I test on them in April. They don't really help with getting a job but they do help prepare for the ASE tests that I will eventually take. I will be attending Lincoln College of Technology for their automotive +associates program starting July 26 and lasting 58 weeks. Luckily I will have weekends off to autocross. My car background has been nothing but second-gen RX-7s. '87 Sport, '88 GXL, and soon to be '89 GTU. I am a huge rotary fanatic and I don't see myself ever detaching from them. I plan on keeping it as OEM as possible, only 'upgrades' being saftey items for peace of mind (mainly cooling system improvements to keep a very keen eye on those temps. I've lost an engine to overheating before and I intend on not letting it happen again.) So all in all this is something I've been wanting to do ever since I've had my license and now I am realizing my dream. It may only be solo, but I wish to one day be road racing in just about any series I can. Grand Am or ALMS would be my top tier dreams. With all that, I will end this introduction of myself and say that I am very excited to get started! Like I said any friendly advice or tips b greatly appreciated for a beginner, and I have read the 'getting started' helping website (forgot actual name of it) so I kind of know where I'm going with this but hey any extra help can't hurt. |
