The Formula 600 Challenge Series announces that the ARRC at Road Atlanta will be a money race with sponsorship.

The Formula 600 Challenge Series will be starting its new race series with the 2012 ARRC at Road Atlanta. This race will have financial sponsorship from Metalloid Corporation, Racing Analytics and Formula 600 Racing.

The Formula 600 Challenge series was developed to help promote an affordable open wheel formula car to showcase talent without large financial race budgets. The Formula 600 open wheel cars use a 600cc motorcycle engine and a 6 speed sequential drive chain revving up to 13,000 rpm with speeds capable in excess of 135 mph. The sound of these drivetrains at 13,000 rpm with their 6 speed sequential transmissions is likened to a F1 car.

"We are excited about our new sponsors for this year’s ARRC at Road Atlanta and look forward to sponsorship for an eight race series for 2013," says Jim Murphy, Partner Formula 600 Racing. A purse will be provided for each race, starting this year with the ARRC at Road Atlanta, and composed of cash and prize awards for the top finishers, along with tow fund payments. The six race series next year will be at tracks located in most SCCA divisions with the final race coming back to the 2013 ARRC at Road Atlanta. "As a sponsor of the series, we look forward to this year’s ARRC at Road Atlanta and are very excited about the race series for the Formula 600 next year," says Fred Edwards CEO of Metalloid Corporation.

The Formula 600 Challenge Series announces the sponsorship of CoolShirt and Luna-C.

With the combined collaboration of these two companies a new type of suit has been created to fit the needs of racers.  With a shared passion of racing Luna-C and CoolShirts have created a race suit with combined technologies that are beneficial to the racer. The suit will have COLDBACK technologies, which reduces the absorption of the sunlight, allowing dark colored garments to stay cool even in direct sunlight. It will also feature ENERGEAR, an energy recovery system for the body. ENERGEAR studies have shown an effect on the body’s balance and can result in enhanced performance, prevention of premature fatigue, and improve general wellbeing. With these combined technologies a racer can have more of an edge while keeping cool out on the track.

These two sponsors will be offering a prize package at each of the races. The prize is the Cool Shirt Bucks Program which consists of a coupon for $100 off a purchase of $300 or more.  For more information and to see the products offered by Luna-C and CoolShirts visit their websites at:

http://www.lunacclothing.com/

http://www.coolshirt.com/

About CoolShirt Systems:

The invention that launched CoolShirt Systems was a cooling vest for surgeons to use in the operating room. Rich Shafer, the company’s founder, spent many years working beside surgeons for hours under hot operating room lights as a distributor for replacement knees, hips, etc. In a true entrepreneurial spirit, Rich saw the opportunity to help the doctors that were helping the patients and the Surgeon’s Cool Vest was born. Since 1987, Shafer Enterprises has grown exponentially to become the world leader in personal cooling systems for surgeons, racecar drivers, football players, fire/emergency services/hazmat, military and industrial workers. Using NASA study guidelines, CoolShirt® active cooling systems help people manage body heat in extreme environments using circulating temperature controlled cool water.

Just an update. The Series Points Fund will be awarded after the Road Atlanta ARRC in November. The total amount is looking to be in the thousands but it is too early to finalize this figure. The plan at this time is to award money based on a percentage with first place getting the highest % and then decrease as the positions go lower. We are doing this arrangement at this time because the Points Fund sponsor has stated that the exact amount of money will NOT be determined until before the last race of the series.
But the main point of all this is to remind all the F600 drivers that they must enter as many races as possible.

RACE #2:  WATKINS GLEN JULY SPRINTS JULY 20-21

The weather cleared up on Sunday from the overcast light rain on Saturday making for beautiful and dry conditions for a great race day. Twenty- Eight cars were in the race group of FF's, F5's, F6's, FV's and even one FST; the FV's started in the back pack of the split start. The front group had a mix of fast F6's in the back of the grid due to the results of the qualifying race on Saturday. As expected, the start was exciting as both Clint McMahan followed closely by Matt Strand shot up the right side of the track going into turn one and joined Keith Joslyn, the F5 pole sitter. These three quickly began a show of excellent racing with many different type passes every lap and long side-by-side runs down the straights. Meanwhile, Fred Edwards had begun his march to the front picking off Ken Van Horn, then later Jason Fitzpatrick and, by mid-race, Chris Ross, to be running in 4th place. Up front, the side-by-side battle for the overall lead had been reduced to Keith and Clint as Matt had dropped back. On the last lap, Clint bobbles in the Bus Stop, loses contact with Keith to finish 2nd overall, but 1st in class; Matt finishes 2nd in class while Jason gets by Fred for 3rd when Fred loses the bolts in his PTO shaft. Fred finishes 4th and the rest of the finishing order is Ken Van Horn 5th, Chris Ross 6th and Tom Edwards 7th.

The Formula 600 Challenge series was developed to help promote an affordable open wheel formula car to showcase talent without large financial race budgets. The Formula 600 open wheel cars use a 600cc motorcycle engine and a 6 speed sequential drive train revving up to 13,000 rpm with speeds capable in excess of 135 mph. The sound of these cars at 13,000 rpm is likened to a F1 car.
