Anyone have contact information for a worker coordinator handling the NASCAR Nationwide race at Road America?  I'm coming-up with nothing.....

Thanks

Announcement:

As much as we would like to involve our staff with the new RA event, support the track, display our professionalism, and feature what will be a world-class premier venue, Chicago Region and Road America have concluded that doing so would cause an undue hardship on our volunteers, given the operating structure and regulations currently in place for the title race series.

Because the SCCA series are tagging along with NASCAR, those same operating procedures and regulations will carry over to those race groups as well.

I am as disappointed as you are, and we will continue to provide our professional services to RA as opportunity affords itself.

That Said... There will be SCCA members working the event but as RA staff. I'm not sure what training NASCAR requires for corners but I believe all other NASCAR mandated training is complete. The contact at RA is Carson

Well, that sucks.

Perhaps I should alter my plans and work the Sprints.....  I did once about 6 years ago and have missed doing so ever since.  ALMS may need to be on the schedule as well.

Thanks Mark!

See ya at Sprints

note: NASCAR flagging rules are a vastly different, you probably would not have been a happy camper anyway

It's been awhile since I flagged (for them).  Probably trucks at Portland (Oregon), if not, definitely trucks at Heartland Park.  Can't recall exactly what they were then, but they sure do look goofy on TV now, so I'd bet you're right.

Thanks again!

Vastly different?

What's so different about using a blue flag as a local yellow and one yellow when it's a full course yellow?

A Blue Flag is not a local Yellow, there is no local Yellow

Mark,

Did you watch NASCAR at Watkins Glen this weekend? Did you note that the waving blue was used as a local yellow flag? It was.

The only time I've watched NASCAR this year was while sitting in my "restoration" truck in the 5/13 crossover on the really big TV that was all the way down at corner 5. It was a really BIG TV

Of course we wouldn't want to lower our uber-high standards of operations, but there is really no social advantage being too snobbish about it.

Waving blue is equivalent to a local yellow to NASCAR drivers.

Yellow is always full course to NASCAR drivers.

White is at S/F only, and simply indicates last lap.  That happens in both professional worlds.  It boils down to what the drivers are going to understand when they see you.  And like any race track anyplace, they may not.  But when they do, we can at least show them the courtesy of communicating in their language.  No, it's not FIA-ish, or SCCA-ish.  But it's also not some kind of 'holier-than-thou" rocket science. It is what it is, and that's the way it is.  You know, "When in Rome...", and all that.  The racing is still racing, just as competitive, and much more fun when they have to turn both directions.

Cascade Sports Car Club operated the K&N Filters NASCAR-W 125 at Portland International Raceway.

It was their second consecutive visit, and was much smoother than their first.  Next year it should even be better.

At least this year they didn't attempt to operated the track like it was just a wiggly oval.

When they say "Put it out.", they are not talking about a fire.

Who knows, maybe it'll rain on 'em next year.  We'll see how they work with that.

It's all about the fun.
