I have been to two track days at Summit Point Shenandoah in my...Subaru Forester XT as this is atm my only car, and quickly realized how unsuitable this is for the track.

I am looking at a variety of cars for track day use. I would like something that would still be streetable, is easy to maintain and has fairly neutral handling. My budget is around 12,000

So far I have found- http://baltimore.craigslist.org/cto/1849200316.html

Would these be good choices, or should I go for something more race prepared?

Mazda Miata cheap reliable and plenty of aftermarket pieces available. With proper safety equipment can still be streetable and not break the bank

Mazda Miatas are always a great and fun little track car.  You might also want to perhaps consider an older Honda Civic, CRX, or Dodge Neon.  They are pretty popular autocross and track cars for being light and easy to modify..  And they all won't break your bank either.
